TEITL Y TRAETHAWD YMCHWIL Amulets of the First Millennium BC in Lower Egypt
The dissertation deals with the typology and trade of amulets in the Egyptian Nile Delta during the first millennium BC. The study includes around twenty sites in the Lower Egypt and analyses amulets, and contexts in which they were found.
It classifies these amulets, underlining the characteristics of specific groups of amulets, based on the iconography, style, material, manufacture technique, provenance, etc. Later on, the research focuses on the trade of these small objects, identifying main production centres in the Lower Egypt. It studies the presence of workshops of amulets and observes their circulation in the area.
Consequently, it deals with the trade of amulets on a larger scale, throughout Egypt, as well as with the Mediterranean and Levant. The dissertation includes also a typological catalogue of amulets from Lower Egypt from the first millennium BC.
