This module equips you with a critical understanding of leadership theories, management practices, and approaches to quality in healthcare. With a dual emphasis on theoretical perspectives and applied healthcare management, the module explores how concepts from business, health, and the wider public sector can be interpreted and implemented within health and social care. You will engage with contemporary debates, drawing on international examples and case studies, to examine how leadership and management can influence the delivery, quality, and sustainability of healthcare services.
As a student, you’ll get the chance to explore the “big picture” ideas behind leadership and management while also testing how they work in real-world healthcare settings. You’ll look at theories not just from health, but also from business and beyond, and see how these ideas can be applied to today’s challenges in health and social care. Lecture delivery of 6 hours a week over 10 weeks.
This module is delivered through lectures and workshops as well as directed and self-directed learning.
