HSC107
Neurosensory Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology
This module offers a deeper exploration of the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the nervous, auditory, and visual systems. It builds on foundational knowledge to help you understand how these complex systems function and how they are affected by disease. You¿ll examine the structure and function of the nervous system, including how electrical signals are generated and transmitted through neurons, and how afferent and efferent pathways contribute to communication within the body. You will study the anatomy and physiology of both the peripheral and central auditory and visual systems, gaining insight into how these systems support hearing and vision. The module concludes with an overview of common pathologies affecting the nervous, auditory, and visual systems, helping you connect theoretical knowledge with clinical relevance.
-
HSC109
Fundamentals of Healthcare Science
This module provides an essential introduction to core scientific principles in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, specifically tailored to support your learning and future practice in healthcare science. In mathematics, you¿ll explore topics such as numbers, fractions, powers, algebra, graphs, exponential and logarithmic functions, vectors, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, data types, curve fitting, and probability distributions. These concepts form the basis for understanding data and quantitative reasoning in clinical contexts.
By the end of the module, you¿ll have a strong interdisciplinary foundation that supports your progression into more specialised areas of healthcare science.

Through hands-on learning and collaborative activities, you will develop an understanding of the importance of teamwork and communication in delivering safe care, particularly in situations where time is limited and coordination is essential.
By the end of the module, you will be equipped to assess, plan, and deliver care for acutely unwell patients with clarity and confidence. You will understand how your role contributes to the wider healthcare team and how your actions can have a direct and positive impact on patient outcomes. This module will support you to enhance your clinical reasoning skills and prepare you to perform effectively in high-pressure healthcare environments.
