About

Rey Shakirzhanov is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management (HRM) and Organisational Behaviour at the School of Management. He is passionate about academic research and teaching in the Higher Education (HE) sector.

As a keen educator, Rey is actively involved in teaching, assessment, and professional development of students and peers in the School of Management. He teaches across a wide range of subjects related to areas of Work and Employment, HRM, and Organisational Behaviour. Drawing on his professional and international experience, Rey aims to help his students to realise their full potential as industry practitioners and future business leaders, as he merges research-informed, innovative, and engaging delivery of teaching tailored to individual needs of students underpinned by values of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI).

As a researcher, Rey is highly interested in shedding light on the nature of contemporary forms of work and employment. His current research explores the nature of work and subjectivity within the domain of cultural work, with a particular focus on the discourses of 'enterprise' in community arts practice in Wales. He also collaborates internationally with leading academics within the field of Industrial Relations, focusing his research on questions of self-employment and workplace insecurity in the gig economy.

 Previously, Rey worked extensively in the global supply chain and logistics industry. His professional experience fuelled his deep interest in understanding social dynamics in non-standard forms of employment and raising awareness of labour conditions in the contemporary workplace.
