Denis Dennehy is Professor of Information Systems & Sustainability, Distinguished Member (Cum Laude) with the Association for Information Systems (AIS), and member of the Chartered ABS Research Committee.
His research focuses on the transformative power of technology to generate economic and social value, and its implications for teams, organisations, and society. This research is informed through engaged research with multinational organisations, SMEs, healthcare providers, government agencies, and the not-for-profit sector. His research has been funded by agencies including NHS Wales, the Welsh Government, UKRI, Research Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, Erasmus+, and Irish Aid. This research has appeared in high quality, high impact outlets including Information Systems Journal, Information & Management, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, European Journal of Operational Research, IEEE and HBR.
His contributions to research, leadership, and teaching have also been recognised through awards including the AIS Impact Award (2025), Swansea University’s Outstanding Research Supervision Award (2024), AIS Sandra Slaughter Service Award (2023), a national Teaching Hero Award (2021), and Dean’s Award for Inclusive Teaching (Team award).
Beyond research, Professor Dennehy plays an active role in shaping the AIS community through leadership, keynote presentations, and workshops. He is co-chair of the Digital Healthcare Innovation and Health Information Systems track at the European Conference on Information Systems (2027) and co-chair of the Health Information Systems, Digital Healthcare and Innovation Management track at IFIP WG 9.4 (2026). Previously, he served as co-editor-in-chief of the Communications of the Association for Information Systems, senior editor with IT & People, and guest edited special issues related to his field.
He has designed undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive education modules including ethical & sustainable issues for business AI, AI in business & society, IS for sustainable development, IS strategy & innovation, digital transformation, project management, and research methods. He is Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and is committed to inclusive teaching, and lifelong learning.
