How to get support and use the library resources from home.
Library services update
The University is planning return to campuses and reopening of services with the health and safety of students and staff as its top priority. In accordance with guidance from Welsh Government and University Management, Library staff have been working closely with Health and Safety and Estates colleagues to plan a safe, phased return which enables social distancing of 2 metres, sanitiser points and provision of services with minimal contact.
When can you take books out?
Our plan is to reopen libraries in a phased approach starting with a “click and collect” service at Singleton and Bay Libraries from mid-July and at Saint David’s Park Library from the end of July. This will enable Library users to place a request in iFind as usual and, following notification by email of availability, visit the Library and use self-issue to take the books out. There will be a one-way system operating with separate entrance and exit and a queueing system facilitating 2m separation of Library users. Opening hours will be limited to start and further information and updates on the availability of this service will be available on our webpages.
When will you be able to study in the Library?
Following assessment of the “click and collect” service and completion of plans to assess capacity, ventilation, cleaning regimes and options for users to circulate around the buildings, we are hoping to make some study spaces available in August. Again, please look for updates on our webpages.
What if you need resources in the meantime?
Library staff are making online resources available wherever possible. If there are particular books or journal articles that you need to access which are not currently available electronically, please contact us at email@example.com, https://libguides.swansea.ac.uk/Document-Supply, or get in touch with your subject librarians at https://libguides.swansea.ac.uk
We understand the importance of Library Services to students and we are working hard to ensure that buildings will be accessible again as soon as possible and, most importantly, to ensure that Library users and staff remain healthy and safe.
If you still have items on loan and are able to keep hold of them until we re-open then please do not visit any of our buildings or campuses. In accordance with current guidance we must still minimise the number of people visiting the university wherever possible.
Any library items that have already been returned (via Security colleagues at the Bay Campus or via post) will be removed from your account as soon as library staff are safely able to return to working on campus and any agreed quarantine periods for library materials have passed.
All fines and fees incurred during the period of closure due to Covid-19 will also be removed from your account in due course.
Provided you have returned your library items, you can ignore any further reminders or account statements. Automatic renewals will also remain in place.
However, if you are a final year student, that does not live locally, and you are leaving Swansea University for good you may return library items to the following locations. Please only do so if there is absolutely no alternative:
Bay Campus - Security (based in the Tower Reception), library item drop-off times 8am -8pm Monday-Sunday)
Singleton Campus - Costcutter* (based in Fulton House) between the following hours:
Monday - Friday 8am-8pm
Saturday & Sunday 9am - 6pm
*Costcutter are also running a foodbank and would be very grateful for any donations of unwanted in-date non-perishable items.
We are continuing to follow both Government and Swansea University guidance in order to enable a safe phased return to on site working and will update our webpages when there are any changes to our current procedures or when new information becomes available.
Due to Coronavirus, you may be needing support on how to study and work from home.
Bay Library and Singleton Park Library are now closed.
Online support for Library and IT Services is available from 8am-8pm every day by emailing Customer Services and via the Service Desk.
We are currently unable to accept returns of borrowed items. Books will auto-renew and you will not be charged fines. If you have items on loan, just keep them safe until we are able to accept them again.
South Wales Miners’ Library and Banwen Library are closed but staff are maintaining support services. Please email the Miners' Library with any enquiries.
St David's Park Library is closed. Online support and appointments are available via LibGuides and LibChat.
For help with your studies, you can contact your Subject Librarian through LibChat, e-mail, or request an online appointment through our LibGuides. LibGuides has online support to help you continue with your academic work at a distance.
