Dr Julianna Faludi is Senior Research Officer at Swansea University’s School of Management, Bevan Commission.

Dr Faludi is a social scientist educated in University of Milan, Trento University (PhD in Local Development and Globalization), Corvinus University of Budapest (Sociology PhD) with an interdisciplinary background and approach.

Her work on forms of open/ collaborative innovation strategies, particularly the value-creation and meaning creation aspects of design innovation in Italian firms granted her the associate professor position at the Media, Marketing and Design Communications Department, where she engaged with education and research projects involving corporate businesses, social enterprises and third sector organizations to create impact. Her applied methods in these projects involved ethnographic tools, service learning and research, design-methods, and case study approach. As a mentor, coach and jury for digital social innovation startups and social hackathons, she was interested in capturing and leading social impact.

Julianna Faludi’s sociological work focuses on socio-economic transformation in the context of platform capitalism, the challenges around innovation as a means and mediator in this process with regard to sustainable systems (systems of consumption-production and circular systems). Her body of work explored fields such as migration studies, cultural systems from an organizational view, or the changing role of technology in contemporary societies.

Her previous professional experience stems from design, evaluation and implementation of regional development as well as institution-building programmes funded by the EU.

Apart from scholarly work, she is a regular invited speaker at public events, and contributor to books and magazines. She was an organizer of various professional workshops and conferences, as well as science communication events for the wider public. As a fiction writer, she published several short stories and a novel. Dr Faludi is fluent in English, Italian, Russian, French and Hungarian, which gives the opportunity to engage with academic writings of various cultures to interact with the public and with scholars of various backgrounds.
