This module will give an advanced look at object-oriented programming (OOP) languages. It will investigate how OOP languages and libraries evolved to meet the needs of developers, overcoming the challenges involved in application development using non-OOP languages. The module introduces the programming languages C and C++, including low-level aspects of programming that are usually abstracted away in languages like Java. By starting with C, students will gain an in-depth understanding of the need for OOP concepts before moving on to studying programming in C++ and these concepts.
The module focuses on Human-Computer Interfaces and Interactions. It offers a thorough introduction to Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), beginning with module logistics and coursework guidelines. It encompasses key topics such as hardware aspects of HCI, human factors, and interaction principles. Students will delve into tangible user interfaces, design principles, and user scenario analysis. Practical skills are honed through hardware prototyping with sensors and actuators, Raspberry Pi programming, and event-driven interface programming. The module also covers qualitative methods, usability testing, signals and filtering, and AI hardware. Coursework includes surveys, field experiments, behaviour logs, participatory design, and hardware evaluations.
