Before you arrive at Swansea University

Before you start your new role, please email your Human Resources contact, to make arrangements for them to see the following:

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK, this may be your passport further details can be viewed: Eligibility to Work Procedure
  • Your qualifications.
  • The forms which were sent out to you with your letter of appointment.
  • Your Swansea address (if this is temporary as you are living away from Swansea, please inform the Human Resources department when you move).

In your appointment letter, you will also have a list of relevant documents to refer to before you start your new post.  You can read these documents on our website in our New Starter Pack.

Eligibility to work in the UK

Your offer of appointment is made subject to you being eligible to work in the UK.  If you think you may need a work permit or visa to be eligible to work, please contact your HR Business Partner (contact details will be on your appointment letter) who will advise you on how to obtain the required authorisation.  For further information please see Eligibility to Work Procedure

If at any stage during your employment you do not have the appropriate permission to work in the UK, you will become subject to the following Ordinance:  Ordinance 11.8 - Termination on grounds of illegality

Medical

All new starters will receive a medical questionnaire from Human Resources as part of the recruitment process which they are required to complete and return to Occupational Health - by email or by post.

The information supplied on the health questionnaire will be assessed and will remain confidential to the Occupational Health Department. Following assessment, a fitness for work certificate will then be sent to Human Resources.

Occupational Health may need to make contact if further information is required prior to confirming fitness. Depending on the nature of the proposed work new starters may be asked to attend Occupational Health for further assessment.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks (Formerly CRB) 

Your appointment may be subject to a DBS check, if this is the case you will be notified with your letter of appointment.  Further information is available at Disclosure and Barring Service Check (Formerly CRB).
