About

Amaha Senu’s research centres maritime spaces to investigate issues of migration and mobility, security and borders, maritime security and global governance, and globalisation and crime. His teaching interests include state crimes and crimes of the powerful, globalisation and harm, critical approaches in Criminology and research methods.

He joined the Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy in 2022 as a Lecturer in Criminology. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study and Associate Fellow at the Seafarers International Research Centre.

Amaha is interested in supervising research projects revolving around:

  • securitisation and criminalisation of migration
  • maritime security and crime
  • globalisation and harm/crime
  • privatisation of security/crime control
  • control, power/resistance, and violence in logistical networks
