Course Overview

Do you have strong commercial awareness and an interest in supply management in today’s global and highly competitive markets?

The MSc Management (Operations and Supply Management) programme at Swansea University is for students with a clear interest in understanding how products and services are made and distributed and learning about how this process can be improved for 21st century companies. The degree has been specifically designed with a clear focus on management in an interconnected global community.

The course offers you the opportunity to focus on modules relating to global supply chain management and project management. It also covers core management concepts such as managing financial resources, operations management, human resource management and marketing management.

Accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the only chartered professional body in the UK dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence, the course is open to students from any discipline who would like to work in business or management. Once you have graduated you will receive a CMI level 7 certificate.

We know it’s a competitive world out there. To help you get the best from your studies and get ahead of the competition, the programme also includes an academic skills module that covers issues such as research methods.

Entry Requirements

Students must attain a 2:2 (or overseas equivalent) in an undergraduate degree. Any degree subject will be considered. 

We consider all applications on their merits and will look at each individual case before making an offer so students who fall slightly short of the entry criteria should still apply to the School of Management.

Non-native English speakers must achieve an IELTS score of 6.0 overall with no component less than 5.5. A list of equivalent tests is provided here. If you have studied an undergraduate degree taught through the medium of English, you may be exempt from this requirement – click here for further information.

For students who fall short of only the English language requirement, we offer a range of Pre-Master's training programmes that you may take before starting your Master's qualification.

For students who fall significantly short of the general entry requirement, we offer a Pre-Master's programme via The College, Swansea University that will allow you entry on to our postgraduate programmes.

How You're Taught

The School of Management uses a variety of teaching methods, in the main, through weekly lectures and seminars. 

From the start of your degree, you will be immersed in our cutting-edge research and industry led teaching, having every opportunity to develop key transferable skills whilst meeting the learning outcomes set out in the module syllabus.

Welsh Provision

If you are a Welsh speaker our dedicated academy, Academi Hywel Teifi, is here to support you throughout your time at Swansea University. We offer you:

  • An interview through the medium of Welsh when applying for a place.
  • The option to receive your personal correspondence in Welsh - we will then communicate with you in your language of choice.
  • The option to write and submit your coursework or exams through the medium of Welsh (even if you have chosen to study in English), and every effort will be made to mark your work in its original language.
  • A Welsh-speaking personal tutor.
  • One-to-one support to improve your academic Welsh language skills.

Since 2011, there has been a 40% increase in the number of students studying through the medium of Welsh at Swansea University and our *TEF data over the last two years shows that Welsh-medium students are high achievers in regards to employability (*Swansea University TEF return 2017 and 2018).

Professional Body Accreditation

Swansea University’s School of Management is an approved HE Partner of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Upon successful completion of the MSc Management (Operations and Supply Management) you will qualify for CMI’s Level seven Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership.

Tuition Fees

Annual tuition fees for entry in the academic year 2020/21 are as follows:

Tuition fees for years of study after your first year are subject to an increase of 3%.

International students and part-time study: It is now possible for some students to study part-time under the Tier 4 visa route. This is dependent on factors relating to the course and your individual situation. It may also be possible to study with us if you are already in the UK under a different visa category. You may be eligible for funding to help support your study.

Academi Hywel Teifi at Swansea University and the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol offer a number of generous scholarships and bursaries for students who wish to study through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. The School of Management also offers a Developing Futures Scholarship for postgraduate (taught) students who have an offer to study at the School of Management. The scholarship is to the value of £3,000 for one academic year, which is automatically deducted from tuition fees.

The scholarship package encourages students to develop a number of professional skills whilst working with the School throughout the academic year.

Additional Costs

You may face additional costs while at university, including (but are not limited to):

  • Printing, photocopying, stationery and equipment costs (e.g. USB sticks)

  • Gowns for graduation ceremonies

Careers and Employability Swansea Employability Academy (SEA) will support you at each stage of your career journey helping you build a bright future.

Our career support services include:

  • Individual advice and guidance from professionally qualified Careers Advisers

  • Access to information resources on a wide range of career management topics

We also provide help and advice for Swansea University Alumni up to two years after you graduate.

The School of Management also has a dedicated in-house Employability team offering additional support.
