Students studying a full-time or part-time Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) can get funding to help with the costs of the course, provided all eligibility criteria are met.

Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Incentives

We have the following Initial Teacher Education funding incentives available. If you are interested in applying for any, please contact our PGCE Funding Team, who will confirm your eligibility and help you through the application process.

Please note - you can apply for more than one incentive if you feel you meet the eligibility criteria.

The Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Priority Subject Incentive is available to PGCE Secondary students with a previous degree classification of 2.2 or higher studying PGCE Biology, Chemistry, Design & Technology, Information Technology, Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), Physics and Welsh.

Funding available: a total of £20000 paid to eligible students in three instalments (Full Time) / four instalments (Part Time).

The Welsh Government Ethnic Minority Initial Teacher Education Incentive is a grant available to Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students studying an accredited postgraduate ITE programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Funding available: a total of £5000 paid to eligible students in three instalments (Full Time) / four instalments (Part Time).

The Welsh Government Iaith Athrawon Yfory Incentive Scheme is an incentive paid to eligible persons who complete an accredited secondary postgraduate ITE programme in Wales that enables them to teach through the medium of Welsh or teach Welsh as a subject.

Funding available: a total of £5000 paid to eligible students in two instalments.

Other funding opportunities

PGCE courses receive the same funding as undergraduate degree courses. If you are eligible, you can apply for support towards both tuition fees and living costs.

International students are not eligible for statutory student funding, but they may be able to access some financial support through the University.
