Shwmae Su'mae Day - 15 October - is a national celebration. The aim is simple: to start each conversation with Shwmae ("Hi there" in Welsh). It's celebrated across Wales and is a time for people to come together to celebrate and promote the Welsh language.

Swansea University is proud to be a bilingual university. This means that you're welcome to use your Welsh when you come into contact with the University. These rights are set out in the Welsh Language Standards.

Academi Hywel Teifi is the Welsh-language powerhouse of the University, and is responsible for developing opportunities for students to study elements of their course through the medium of Welsh. They are also home to the Learn Welsh Swansea Bay centre, and the Welsh department itself.
