Course Overview

Swansea University and Université Grenoble Alpes offer two dual award MSc degrees in Computer Science: Informatique.

Both courses lead to degrees from both universities and both are two academic years long, involving one year in Swansea and one year in Grenoble. The year in Grenoble is usually taught in English but can be taken in French if you are sufficiently fluent.

The Grenoble route starts in Grenoble and finishes in Swansea. The available specialisms are:

Our £32.5m Computational Foundry lies at the heart of the Swansea course. Sophisticated teaching and research equipment include a Vision and Biometric Lab, a Maker Lab, a Theory Lab, a Cyber Security/Networking Lab, a User Lab and Visualisation Suite.

Your Computer Science - Informatique (Grenoble) Experience

This course starts in Grenoble and finishes in Swansea. You take two 60-credit modules in Grenoble, while at Swansea you build 45 credits from a selection of 15-credit modules, and undertake a 60-credit project module.

You can choose to specialise in Mobile Systems, Big Data, Graphics and Visualisation, Theory and Foundations, or Software Technology.

Over the course of this degree you will be taught by staff from internationally renowned research groups. Their knowledge of constant developments in computer science helps to keep your learning fresh and relevant to the wider industry.

Swansea laboratories are continually upgraded to ensure equipment is never more than three years old, and rarely more than two. Three fully networked laboratories are currently in use.

Modules

You take two compulsory 60-credit modules in the first Grenoble part of this course. In the second part at Swansea you take a 60-credit project module and build 45 credits from a selection of 15-credit modules. These are selected from either the mobile systems track, the big data, graphics and visualisation track, the theory and foundations track, or the software technology track.

Entry Requirements

A 2:1 in a computer science undergraduate degree (or equivalent).

IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent English test.

How You're Taught

On the course you will be assessed by a combination of written examinations, coursework and a Dissertation.

Each course has a student rep. They are there to make sure that every student voice is heard. Their role is to listen and feedback on your opinions, attend regular meetings and make sure that the people who can make changes listen to the people who really matter - you!

We offer both academic mentoring and peer mentoring. Our Peer mentoring scheme is in place to help new students settle into university life here at Swansea.
