What we do

Our research work has impacted policy, practice and improved performance throughout the elite pathway and at the very highest level. We work with a range of elite and professional sporting organisations on a diverse range of research-informed interventions focussing on pre-conditioning and recovery, parenting, biomechanics, nutrition, choking under pressure, genetics, and numerous other topics which all play an important role in achieving high levels of performance. Some specific examples of our projects and partners can be found further down on this page.

Several of our recent projects combine sport and technology in interdisciplinary ways and this has resulted in our key involvement in the recent formation of a Centre of Excellence – the Centre for Applications of Engineering in Sport, Exercise and Medicine – in the College of Engineering, within which we are housed.

We have produced over 300 research outputs since 2010 and have secured over £1.5 million from a variety of sources to support our work.
