What we do

The group’s research work within elite and professional sport has impacted policy, practice and improved performance throughout the elite pathway and at the very highest level.

The growing cross fertilisation of sport and technology has also resulted in an interdisciplinary project in collaboration with the Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating and a range of partners including Sport Wales and the English Institute of Sport. This project is Welsh Government-funded and will focus on manufacturing wearable technologies on a large scale which are suitably valid for a range of applications in elite sport.

Research conducted in collaboration with research partners and practitioners in Australia, Canada, the USA, New Zealand, France, Germany, and Norway examining stress and coping in elite sport and examining parental involvement in youth sport has enabled practising sport scientists in EPS to develop and deliver research-informed interventions and consultations to national and international sports organisations and elite performers.

Research on pre-conditioning and recovery strategies have international reach and are being used by elite athletes across a range of sports in the UK and abroad.

Significant research outputs have populated the elite sports performance literature and over a million pounds has been generated to support research over the past 5 years.
