Preparing for University Life

Moving away from home for University might seem daunting but the better prepared you get the easier it’ll be. Remember – you’re not necessarily leaving forever and you don’t need to pack the kitchen sink! For things you do need, it’s much easier to collect things closer to your new home, or even get them delivered.

What's here, what's not and where to get the best deals

What's already here?

Wherever you’re living, there will already be some things in your flat before you arrive. Every University residence will have the following:

In your room

Bed and mattress

Ear plugs and an eye mask to catch up on sleep at any time of day/night!
Plasters and first aid kit

Top tip: Fancy dress items for Freshers Events – e.g. school tie and white shirt, stripy top for Where’s Wally, Hawaiian shirt

Sheets, mattress protector and bedding

Towels, including hand towels

Top tip: A door wedge – that way you can get to know your flat mates and can choose when you do/don’t want to be disturbed!

Bath/shower mat

Top tip: A caddy for the shower/bath - the shelves are rarely big enough for more than a bar of soap!

Top tip: Don't forget to join your Facebook Group and meet your new flatmates to coordinate who is bringing what…you don't want to end up with 8 toasters and no plates to eat off!

Argos – High Street, SA1 1NZ
Debenhams – The Quadrant Shopping Centre, SA1 3QX (with a handy pick up parking point at the rear!)

There’s also a range of deliver local stores around the city, for example in Uplands, Brynmill, Port Tennant and SA1.
