We have experience in university life. We are here to help
Your Welfare Wardens
We’re students living in residence and we’re here to support you. We have experience of the university system including settling into accommodation and university life; we know how to get the best out of the student experience.
We know how you feel
Collecting your keys, feeling nervous and excited about the next few years, moving away from home, leaving your friends and having to make new ones … we’ve been through it all ourselves, so we know how you feel!
We're here to help
We like to think of ourselves as a friendly face; someone who’s been through similar experiences and faced the same concerns and sense of apprehension. We relate to what you’re going through and are here to offer our support.
How can we help?
There are loads of different ways we can help and advise you. Firstly, we can tell you how to access the university’s support services and explain how those services can help. In the early stages after arrival, we can help you adjust to living in university accommodation – we run a series of talks aimed at helping you settle in. Most importantly, we’re here if you just want a chat: we can offer you general advice but really we’re more about listening and supporting you from an impartial standpoint.
At the start of the Academic year, sometime between Freshers’ Week and mid-October, we will be coming round your residence to give welcome talks, check how things are going and generally see how you’re settling in. We’ll also give you plenty of local info. These will take place in your kitchen – we’ll email you to let you know when. For some of you this may be the only chance we get to meet you and you may also make new friends in your block.
