About

I have been employed at Swansea University since 2009 having previously worked in local government for many years, before leaving to study for an MBA.

Following this I undertook a CELTA with International House in Rome, followed by 5 years in Japan teaching English to all age groups, and at all levels.

Since returning to the UK, and joining the University, I have studied for a DELTA and taught many wonderful students. I have taught at The College (previously ICWS) since 2010, and am the academic lead, coordinator, and part of the teaching team, for all English EAP modules. I have a particular interest in EAP writing and assessment, so look forward to sharing my knowledge with you.

ELE019 English for Academic studies Programme (EASP)

This module is designed for students who wish to develop their English language and academic skills that you need to succeed in your degree programme at Swansea University. The English for Academic Studies programme (EASP) aims to build confidence and hone skills in using English language and academic skills. Students will learn how to write and communicate in the academic world through academic related materials including writing essays, completing assignments, attending lectures, working in groups and delivering a presentation and learn how to survive and be a successful University student. By the end of the module, you should feel more empowered for your academic journey at Swansea University, and have developed some valuable academic study skills.

ESP001 English Portfolio 1

On completion of the English Skills Portfolio 1-3 Foundation Course, students should have reached a linguistic level appropriate for academic study on their chosen degree scheme at Swansea University. The aim of English Skills Portfolio is to enable students to develop their English Language level within an academic context, and to equip students with the linguistic and academic skills necessary to perform confidently within their chosen discipline, whilst simultaneously encouraging them to become effective independent learners.

On completion of the English Skills Portfolio Foundation Course, students should have reached a linguistic level appropriate for academic study on their chosen degree scheme at Swansea University. This module enables students to enhance their academic abilities - equipping students with the linguistic and academic skills necessary to perform confidently within their chosen discipline, whilst simultaneously encouraging effective independent learning.
LAAN02 Resilience

Resilience is having the ability to deal with difficult situations in your personal and professional life. This is a skill that can be learned and developed with thoughts, actions, knowledge and a commitment to achieving your goals. Having the right tools and a willingness to succeed can lead to a positive, healthy, well balanced and stress-free life. This module aims to help students understand the importance of resilience and how to become resilient. Students will learn about the key components of resilience to ensure they have the tools needed to maintain good physical and mental well-being when faced with challenging situations.
PMM1012 Academic English Skills 1

This module has been designed to be delivered in conjunction with other TCSU Pre-Master¿s modules. This module aims to contribute to raising student awareness of necessary English language skills needed in an academic context in order to be able to cope with the demands of a postgraduate programme. It will focus on developing students¿ ability in the academic writing, reading, listening and language skills required for study on academic programmes at Masters level and will also develop students¿ research and critical thinking skills, as well as their spoken English language ability, necessary for academic purposes. Successful completion of this module indicates that students have developed the core receptive and productive skills needed in academic English to enable them to perform confidently within their chosen discipline whilst simultaneously encouraging effective independent learning.

This module aims to raise student awareness of necessary English language skills, needed in an academic context, in order to cope with the demands of a postgraduate programme. It will specifically focus on developing students¿ ability in Summary, Evaluation, and Argumentative academic writing; as well as reading, listening, and language skills required for study on academic programmes at Masters level. It will also develop students¿ research and critical thinking skills, in addition to their spoken English language ability.
