About

I completed my Doctorate in Education in 2017. My research focused on the interface between critical thinking and culture, an area which has proven to be of immense value in my work at the international community of The College.

I have trained hundreds of teachers, been a Head of Faculty and an Assistant Professor and have been lucky enough to work in many different places in the world, including China, Cambodia and most recently Eritrea. I returned to the UK in 2019, and have been teaching at The College ever since.

EDS218 Social Problems: Media, Myths and Moral Panics

This module explores in detail the processes through which society constructs social issues. It begins by critically exploring the sociology of myth and inviting students to analyse the structures of myths and urban legends. Focusing in-depth on social problems as social processes, it encourages students to think critically about the waysocial problems are defined, presented, and approached in a variety of public arenas and encourages students to apply these insights to explore critically a selection of current events.

The module provides students with the fundamental knowledge base and intellectual skills associated with thinking critically. This module provides an understanding of the basic requirements for building and consolidating a reasoned argument. Great focus is placed on the issue of the credibility of ideas and texts.

The module provides students with the fundamental knowledge base and skills required at postgraduate level. The module provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of critical thinking strategies and to understand the essential role these strategies play in the research process.
PPS000 Understanding Society

This module introduces students to the study of society. It will examine the distinctive questions that subjects such as Sociology, Social Sciences and Social Policy ask about human society and some of the key concepts and tools we use in tackling those questions. The module also provides students with a foundation in the skills we use when writing and social issues.
