Dr Emma Borland looks at how we define what makes somebody a refugee under international law, and why it is important.

She discusses the history that changed international law, such as the mass displacement of people during WW2, and the resulting 1951 Refugee Convention, which is still the cornerstone of refugee law today.

An introduction to ‘advocacy’ from Billy Seagrim, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law. Billy covers the basics of advocacy, and becoming a capable advocate, with plenty of useful hints and tips along the way, which Billy has learned during his time as a practising Barrister.

Dr Ryan Murphy provides an introduction to the laws and legal system in place in England and Wales by looking at the nature of law, and how it is included in each and every element of everyday life.

An overview of how the law addresses freedom of expression and the regulation of hate speech from Law Lecturer, Dr Val Aston.

Val talks about the issues arising from the need to protect freedom of expression, but also protect the public from hate speech at the same time. She also speaks about the difficulties in defining hate speech in the law, while still allowing the public the freedom to express their beliefs, and asks whether you think this is covered adequately in law, or if we could be doing more?
