About The Role

We are seeking a Research Assistant with outstanding organisational and communication skills and a passion for environmental and social impact. You will play a key role in ‘Retrofitting for the Future – Nature-Based Solutions to Climate Adaptation’, a transdisciplinary project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

The project explores the cultural, social, and ecological dimensions of biophilic retrofitting, integrating nature into buildings, through the Biophilic Living Building in Swansea (the Biome) This involves transforming a former Woolworths building into a nature integrated mixed-use development, combining social housing with space for sustainable enterprises and community activity.

You will work within a transdisciplinary team spanning architecture, ecology, law, literature and anthropology, alongside partners in construction, social housing, green infrastructure, and nature-based solutions.

The role focuses on exploring future possibilities for biophilic living through creative and reflective research. You will support art-based co-creation with communities, using approaches such as storytelling, visual arts and design, and eco-poetics. You will design and delivery workshops with communities and schools and contributed to the development of creative and narrative outputs.

You will also support wider research activity, including data collection and analysis, and the preparation of outputs for publication.

The successful candidate will be collaborative, adaptable, and proactive, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work across disciplines and with diverse partners (see JD for more detail).

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
