English Requirements at The College, Swansea University

All students at The College, Swansea University will be required to demonstrate an appropriate level of English Language ability in order to join us for their studies. This can be done in a variety of ways depending on your location, education and employment history and more.

In most cases however, The College will require the completion of an appropriate English Language qualification. The most widely available such qualification is the IELTS test, the required scores for a standard two semester programme in each level of study of which can be viewed below.

1 and 2 Semester: 5.5 (Minimum of 5.5 in each component)

2 Semester: 5.5 (Minimum of 5.5 in each component)

1 & 2 Semester: 5.5 (Minimum of 5.5 in each component)

Single CAS

2 Semester: UKVI IELTS 5.5 (Writing 5.5 and no skills below 5.0)

N/A

2 Semester: UKVI IELTS 5.0 (4.5)

3 Semester: UKVI IELTS 5.0 (Writing 5.0 and no skill below 4.5)

3 Semester: UKVI IELTS 5.5 (Writing 5.5 and no skills below 5.0)

3 Semester: UKVI IELTS 4.5 (4.0)

*Students studying at a lower NQF Level program will be issued with a Single CAS and will require a new CAS upon progression to their next level of study (In this case only UKVI IELTS will be accepted). All other students will be issued with a Joint CAS where possible.

ELTS Programmes

If you have an English language condition to meet then you may wish to consider completing a period of study with the English Language Training Service. The ELTS team offer a variety of programmes aimed at aiding students with their English language ability. Successful completion of an ELTS pre-sessional programme will result in your English language condition being met, allowing you to begin your academic studies with us at The College, Swansea University.
