BIOM702 Care of Aquatic Species for Marine Restoration and Conservation

The increasing pressures on marine ecosystems, from climate change to habitat degradation, have heightened the need for conservation strategies that extend beyond in-situ interventions. This module explores the critical role of ex-situ care in marine species restoration and conservation, equipping students with the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to implement effective conservation programs. This intensive 10-week skills module is designed to provide hands-on training in housing and maintaining aquatic species in optimal conditions, using the state-of-the-art facilities at Swansea University's Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Research (CSAR). The module will equip students with practical experience in aquatic animal husbandry and animal welfare, live feeds, microalgal maintenance, water quality management, and cutting-edge aquaculture technologies.
