As a mentor, you will be working alongside your student to strengthen their competencies, support their career progression and enhance their graduate skills.

Typically, the student will be prepared with an agenda based on his or her own career development needs. It will be your role to provide support to enable the student to progress their career plan.

Alumni Event – December 2018

Our winter alumni event welcomed a number of current students as well as graduates from a range of companies including TATA steel, DHL, NHS and Marks and Spencers. The evening was enlightening, with three speakers sharing how they made the most of their experience at Swansea University and the impact it had on securing employment.

Amy Riley, Sales and Marketing Executive at Swim Wales, highlighted the importance of the opportunities she undertook whilst at SoM, such as her role as student ambassador and her placement at Copper Bay, which helped her gain her full time graduate role.

Frank Holmes, Partner at Gambit Corporate Finance LLP, shared the importance of taking risks in his career and how he wouldn’t have got to where he was today without doing this. He gave a comprehensive overview of his career that led to him starting his own business and becoming one of the top deal makers in South Wales.

Osman Faisal, Assistant Economist, Heat and Business Energy Analysis, Clean Growth Directorate, discussed his role as an assistant economist and how he transitioned from his undergraduate and postgraduate studies into the workplace. He also highlighted opportunities he made the most of, such as Intern China.
