If you’re passionate about Human Rights we want to hear from you! We welcome applications from students around the world.

Ideally you’ll hold a 2:1 undergraduate degree, or equivalent, in a relative area (such as law, criminology or politics). We also consider candidates with a 2:2 degree based on overall performance. Candidates with relevant experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

If English is not your first language you will need an acceptable pass in an approved English Language qualification such as the IELTS test (with an overall score of at least 6.5 and a minimum of 6.0 in each component).

The course is taught primarily on-campus, with lecturers and students present in the teaching room. There may be occasions where teaching is delivered online (via Zoom), but this is usually to accommodate guest lecturers who may not be in Swansea (or indeed the UK).  

Different lecturers will use different teaching methods, these might include:  

• Guided reading 
• Lecture preparation guidance 
• Seminar preparation guidance 
• In class (or online) live lectures 
• Participative lectures (Q&A, discussion) 
• Participative group work 
• Recorded materials  
• Quizzes 
• Self-test questions 

Some lecturers may choose to record their lectures but this is not standard practice on the LLM Human Rights.

Some provision

There are opportunities for Welsh speakers to study some elements of this postgraduate course through the medium of Welsh but there is not yet enough provision to reach 40 credits in each year. The Programme Director can outline to you what is available in Welsh.

International students and part-time study: It may be possible for some students to study part-time under the Student Visa route. However, this is dependent on factors relating to the course and your individual situation. School of Law Scholarships and Bursaries

The Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law also offers Inspiring Futures Scholarships for international (including EU) postgraduate (taught) students who have an offer to study at the School of Law. 

Access to your own digital device/the appropriate IT kit will be essential during your time studying at Swansea University. Access to wifi in your accommodation will also be essential to allow you to fully engage with your programme. The School of Law takes a proactive approach to enhancing graduate employability, with a dedicated Employability and Placements Team. • English language skills (if English is not your first language).

In addition, if you have a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), disability, mental health or medical condition, the Centre for Academic Success have Specialist Tutors to support your learning, working alongside the Disability Office and Wellbeing Service to support all your needs and requirements whilst studying at Swansea University.
