In 2021 Swansea University and the University of Canberra launched an International Strategic Partnership which aims to develop sustainable and mutually beneficial collaborations in teaching, research and staff and student mobility in line with their shared values and in support of their shared global ambitions..

The partnership's initial focus was in the area of Sport and Exercise Science (Faculty of Science and Engineering), which built on long-established relationships in this area. To date, this has delivered a number of joint research projects, collaborative teaching initiatives and staff and student mobility.

Following on from these initial successes, collaborations in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences have been developed, and there are ambitious plans to continue to grow the relationship.
