The University of Kansas is the state’s flagship university and one of just 62 invited members of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU). The main campus is on Mount Oread, the highest elevation in Lawrence. During your time here why not take part in the National Debate tournament, the University of Kansas has won 6 times, and made it to the finals with 15 teams. Perhaps you would prefer to write for the college newspaper the University Daily Kansan, it placed first in the 2007 intercollegiate Writing Competition for the prestigious William Randolph Hearst Writing Foundation prize, often referred to as "The Pulitzers of College Journalism". If you’re more athletically inclined then consider competing for one of the many Sports teams as a Kansas Jayhawk and wear their signature crimson and royal blue colours. There are over 600+ student organisations to choose from, there will be something for everyone. In 2005, Rolling Stone named Lawrence one of the "best lil' college towns" in the country. Visit the locally owned bar and music venue The Replay Lounge, in 2007 it was named one of Esquire magazine's top 25 bars/venues in the country.

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.
