University of Oklahoma student stories

Freddie studied at the University of Oklahoma for 1 semester (2017) as an exchange student with the Political and Cultural Studies department at Swansea University. Here are some of the comments he made about his experience:  

The University of Oklahoma

"The University of Oklahoma is an amazing place, the campus is huge and also very beautiful, the International office is incredibly well run, and the university itself is host to a large and exciting community of international students. The university makes a massive effort to integrate incoming internationals, organizing events and pairing up students with either host families or a local American student."

Favourite Moment

"My favourite moment of the trip was when my flatmates and I decided to take a road trip from Oklahoma to Chicago. The trip was incredibly long, as it’s about 600 miles to Chicago, but it was also an incredibly fun experience. Along the way we stopped in St. Louis to go to Six Flags theme park, ate at truck stops and diners on route, and saw as much as we could of Chicago."

Challenges

"Perhaps the biggest difficulty was adjusting to different styles of writing, particularly grammar, and also the different kinds of work that professors expect from you, which though somewhat easier than our work, has its own complexities due to it often being quite different."

Reflection

"My aims for going on the semester abroad were to explore America, see the less metropolitan parts of the country, make friends from all over the world, and of course, to do well in my studies. I accomplished nearly all of these, though sadly I couldn’t see as much of America as I would have liked. It’s a huge country!"
