Global opportunities in Switzerland

Situated in Central Europe, Switzerland has borders with France to the west, Italy to the south, Austria and Liechtenstein to the east and Germany to the north.  Switzerland has cold, rainy and snowy winters, and cool to warm, cloudy, humid summers. Switzerland is considered one of the safest countries in Europe, and students are spoilt for choice with what this beautiful country has to offer – from its stunning scenery, to its alpine sports, famous Swiss cheese Gruyère and of course, Lindt chocolate!

Important Considerations

  • Non EU nationals may require a visa and must contact the Swiss Embassy three to five months before entering Switzerland to enquire about the visa process.
  • Students will need to apply for a residence permit from the Geneva Migration Office prior to arrival. 
  • You will to show proof of finances for the duration of your stay of at least 2000 Swiss Francs a month - expect this to rise for 24/25.
  • You might need your letter of acceptence from your host university to show at the border.
  • Switzerland is not a cheap country to live in and cost of living is a lot higher so, be prepared for this and budget carefully. 
  • Accommodation is extremely expensive and difficult to find.
