His research centres on bank behaviour, regulation and supervision, and financial crises, with a growing focus on contemporary challenges such as climate risk and competition from fintech. Dr Zhou’s research has been published in international peer‑reviewed journals, including the European Journal of Finance and the Journal of International Money and Finance. Notably, his paper “Too Systemically Important to Fail in Banking: Evidence from Bank Mergers and Acquisitions” was presented at the Bank of England, underscoring the policy relevance of his findings.
