Andrew is Professor of Animal Behaviour at Swansea University. His research group (SHOALgroup) studies animal behaviour and ecology across a range of systems, with a focus on social behaviour. With strong applied themes, his work spans disciplines and sectors, applying behavioural research to issues from wildlife management to swarm robotics. Andrew has published over 100 scientific articles, provides consultancy on human–wildlife interactions, and delivers workshops for schools, businesses, and organisations on the evolution of teamwork and leadership. He has given more than 60 invited scientific talks worldwide, and his research is frequently featured on TV, radio, and online. Andrew is an award-winning university lecturer and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, recognised for developing innovative postgraduate programmes and collaborative research degrees. He has held leadership roles supporting postgraduate research students, as well as in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.
