Course Details
Supported by TWf, the course is jointly taught by 10 industrial experts who have substantial experience and expertise as contractors (e.g. Costain and Skanska) and as consultants (e.g. DE-CS, Richter, Crouch Waterfall, RDG, Tony Gee etc.) It provides a broad coverage of temporary works, including:
- Construction method engineering - by Julian Howe;
- Temporary works in a project context - by Jim Tod;
- Case studies – by Paul Boddy;
- Temporary works engineering as a technical discipline – by Rob Millard;
- Sustainability;
- Digital and AI – by Matthew Hall;
- A recap on structural mechanics – by Bill Hewlett;
- Designing in timber for TW;
- Designing in steel for TW – by David Milward;
- Designing a hoarding – by Stefano Quintavalle.
The course is part of our full-time MSc programmes for Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering and Construction Management. It is also available for external professional learners to take as a standalone CPD module.
The CPD learners will have full access to the module contents in the same way as the full-time students. Swansea University will issue a CPD certificate to each external student at the end of the course.

Professional engineers who are interested and require training in temporary works.
Date
Start from first week in October.
Duration
It is delivered over a period of 10 weeks, with a 3-hour lecture/discussion class each week. All lectures will be live delivered with a video link, and they will all be recorded to allow offline access.
Assessment
CPD students do not get assessed/examined, but they need to participate in all course elements and demonstrate full engagement by completing the online quiz tests.

Location
The course is delivered at Swansea University Bay Campus. For CPD students, the course can be taken remotely through online lectures.
