Work experience in the Senedd for a taste of the political world

For some years now, the public speaking competition, Her Sefydliad Morgan, sponsored by Swansea University’s Morgan Institute of Advanced Studies has been held as part of the GwyddonLe offering at the Urdd Eisteddfod. It gives contestants a great opportunity to voice their opinions and display their reasoning and debating skills in front of a live audience and leading critics in the field of policy and politics.

The judges had quite the challenge themselves last year in choosing a winner but Llŷr Gruffydd MS, and the microbiology expert, Professor Angharad Puw Davies, concluded that Hanna Morgans from Ysgol Bro Teifi was awarded best speaker on the subject 'It should be compulsory for people to be vaccinated against serious infections for the benefit of society'.

As well as winning the Morgan Foundation Challenge Trophy and a monetary prize for her school, Hanna also had the opportunity to go on work experience of her choice organised by Academi Hywel Teifi. Hanna is very interested in politics and hopes to work in journalism as a reporter in the future. So, it was arranged for her to spend a day in the Senedd with Sioned Williams MS and luckily, Llŷr Gruffydd MS was there too!

Sioned Williams MS said, "It was a pleasure to welcome Hanna to the Senedd as part of her award and give her a taste of the political world and my duties and responsibilities as a Member of Senedd. It's great to see the passion and enthusiasm of young people in Wales towards politics and it's important that we encourage and support them by offering them these special opportunities."
