Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation
Siwan Davies is a Professor of Physical Geography at Swansea University, with over 25 years of experience researching past climate change using volcanic ash deposits preserved in Greenland and Antarctic ice cores. Siwan’s research has been funded by the European Research Council, NERC, and most recently through a Royal Society Leverhulme Trust Senior Fellowship.
She was awarded the Philip Leverhulme Prize, a Fulbright Scholar Award and the Learned Society of Wales Frances Hoggan medal. Siwan served as a REF2021 sub-panel member for the ‘Geography and Environmental Studies’ unit of assessment and will do so again for REF2029.
Siwan is a Learned Society of Wales Council Member, the Chair of the Society’s Researcher Development Advisory Group, a member of the Research and Higher Education Committee for the Royal Geographical Society and a former member of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Academic Board.
At Swansea University, Siwan was the Head of the Department of Geography, the Head of the School of Biosciences, Geography and Physics, and served on the Faculty of Science and Engineering Leadership Team.
