Registrar and Chief Operating Officer
David has spent his career working in higher education. He has held the positions of Deputy Principal, Chief Operating Officer & University Secretary at Royal Holloway University of London; Vice-President, Administration & University Registrar at the University of Surrey; Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Partnerships & University Recruitment at Leeds Beckett University; and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Strategy at Kingston University London.
In his earlier career, David worked at the University of Reading, where he was Sub-Dean and Senior Tutor of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. He has also worked at the University of Warwick and in Japan.
As a consultant, David has supported several universities on issues of corporate governance, academic governance, globalisation and student number acquisition. He is the author of multiple reports on navigating complex strategic transformation, including those involving legal and governance restructuring and merger.
David is a Trustee at the University of Gloucestershire, and the Funders’ Nominee on the Board of Jisc. Other board-level appointments include 8 years as a Trustee at UCAS, and multiple governance roles within the secondary and further education sectors and with education-related charities, including a period as Vice-Chair of Corporation at West Thames College of Further and Higher Education, London.
David is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts and an Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Lancaster, a Doctorate from the University of Oxford, and an MBA from the Institute of Education, University College London.
