Our BA in English Language and Linguistics at Swansea University offers a dynamic and comprehensive exploration of how language works, how it’s used, and how it shapes our social and cultural worlds. Your English Language and Linguistics Experience

There are many attributes of our BA English Language and Linguistics course that have been developed to enhance your student experience with us at Swansea. Throughout your degree, you will benefit from a dedicated personal tutor who will guide and support your academic and personal development. During the second year of your degree, to boast your career prospects, you can opt to take the Cambridge CELTA, a globally recognised qualification for teaching English as a foreign language. You will also have the opportunity to benefit from The Swansea University Work Placement Programmes which offer three work place programmes: Week of Work (WOW); Swansea paid Internship Programme (SPIN) and Santander Universities Funded Placements. Furthermore, The Swansea Employability Academy (SEA) provides a network for linking students with employers, ranging from employer talks and workshops through to student led networking events to enrich your student experience.

This programme includes opportunities to undertake a Year Abroad, enhancing your learning and offering invaluable life experience. This course also offers you the opportunity to spend a Year in Industry, in the UK or overseas, enabling you to gain valuable workplace experience. The University advocates for paid-only placements, which on average have a salary of over £20,000. Unpaid placements are considered on a case-by-case basis.

The additional Foundation Year included in this programme gives you an exciting introduction to higher education, setting you up with the skills, confidence, and knowledge that you’ll need to be successful in your undergraduate degree. It’s ideal if you need a little more support after further education, or are returning to education after a gap. Following successful completion of the Foundation Year, you will progress onto Year 1 of your BA.
