The five Welsh Universities at the core of ASTUTE 2020+

At the core of ASTUTE 2020 are five Welsh HEI’s, Swansea University, Cardiff University, Aberystwyth University, University of South Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD). Collaborating together since 2010 on the ASTUTE project (2010 – 2015) focusing on technologies related to manufacturing, the five partners offer highly qualified project officers and renowned academic expertise to enable transformational and sustainable growth in the manufacturing industry across Wales by facilitating the adoption of advanced technologies, increasing competitiveness and future proofing.

Swansea University’s contribution to ASTUTE 2020 is centred at the College of Engineering, delivered by its internationally recognised research centres based at the Science and Innovation Bay Campus. The research centres have a long and highly successful tradition working with industry on cutting edge research and development delivering high impact.

Cardiff University

Cardiff University’s elements within ASTUTE 2020 will be delivered by an established partnership made up of three distinct research groupings, each of which has an international reputation for excellence in its own right.

Aberystwyth’s involvement in ASTUTE 2020 will be from the Department of Computer Science, and the emphasis of its research is on intelligent systems mainly focusing in areas of software and robotics.

University of South Wales

The addition of University of South Wales (USW) to the ASTUTE 2020 partnership operation strengthens the dynamic world-class academics and highly qualified project officers located in the participating Welsh HEIs. USW will support manufacturing companies in East Wales, creating actionable knowledge and guide decision-making in the manufacturing process.

UWTSD will contribute to ASTUTE 2020 in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Engineering (FACE) and the School of Engineering, Manufacturing and Logistics in the field of Non-destructive testing.
