Circular Weddings: Forming Local Supply Chains

Swansea Valley Holiday Cottages

What they do:

Swansea Valley Holiday Cottages offers luxury holiday accommodation on the outskirts of Pontardawe, and 10 miles from the Brecon Beacons. The Plas Cilybebyll Estate, with a nine-bedroom manor house and eight holiday cottages, caters to families, high-net-worth individuals, and business groups. The estate is predominantly run on renewable energy, including biomass heating and solar panels – and is installing hydroelectric power this spring! Having hosted their own wedding, the owners are looking to formalise its wedding and events offering.

Challenge / Project:

Developing an ‘eco-wedding’ package that focuses on local procurement to help the company enter a new market and reach clients who are sustainability minded.

Solution / Approach:

ARCS is conducting market research into wedding offerings in South Wales, and existing sustainability focused offerings. This also involves identifying local suppliers and manufacturers of eco-friendly wedding products and services and developing a recommended supplier list which will help add value for potential clients. Additionally, ARCS is creating a procurement framework based on circular economy metrics to support Swansea Valley Holiday Cottages to assess suppliers in the future.

Impact:

• Creating a new, financially viable and competitive service
• Diversification into a new market segment, capitalising on existing resource and shifting customer preferences
• Building a network of local suppliers and supporting other small businesses
