A Swansea University study is seeking participants to explore public attitudes to social care in Wales following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Commissioned by the Senedd Commission of the Welsh Parliament, the study is being led by Dr Simon Williams, Lecturer in Psychology at Swansea University’s School of Psychology.

Dr Williams is looking for adults living in Wales to take part in a brief online questionnaire that will take approximately five-10 minutes to complete. After completing the survey, participants will be entered into a prize draw, where one winner will be picked at random to receive an Apple iPad.

The study also requires a small number of participants to take part in an hour-long focus group via Zoom with up to five other participants. A £10 Amazon gift card will be offered in exchange for participants’ time. Anyone interested in taking part in the online focus group should email Dr Simon Williams for further details.

All the data collected from the survey and focus group will be stored and used confidentially, and responses will remain anonymous in any reports or publications.

To be eligible to take part in this study, participants must be aged 18 or over and living in Wales.

Dr Williams said: “The social care workforce crisis is a key political issue. Staff shortages in social care are reaching desperate levels and are expected to get worse in the months ahead. We want to know what people think about the crisis and what should be done about it.”

This research has been approved by the Department of Psychology’s Research Ethics Committee, Swansea University.
