Swansea University offers a range of Shipping and Trade Law LLM programmes that cover specialist areas of maritime, commercial, trade and energy law.

In the recent Postgraduate Taught Student Experience Survey (PGTSES), covering the 21/22 academic year, the department returned outstanding results.

The PGTSES is based on a suite of surveys offered to students across all levels of study to capture their student experience, which is then used to enhance learning and teaching at Swansea. It is an internal survey that ranks subjects based on ten different metrics, with Shipping and Trade Law at Swansea delivering the following ratings:

  • 100% for Overall Satisfaction
  • 98% for Teaching
  • 98% for Learning Opportunities
  • 97% for Academic Support
  • 96% for Organisation and Management
  • 94% for Assessment and Feedback
  • 93% for Learning Resources
  • 90% for Skills and Dissertation
  • 88% for Student Voice
  • 85% for Learning Community

This is a marked improvement for the department; even though it has delivered consistently high results in this area, it has still managed to improve on every single metric ranked in the PGTSES this year.

Speaking on these results, Director of Shipping and Trade Law at Swansea University, Professor Barış Soyer had the following to say:

"We aim to offer our students a contemporary legal education delivered by colleagues who are at the cutting edge of their disciplines. This year we delivered a huge part of our curriculum in person despite the ongoing pandemic and we offered various extracurricular activities, i.e. mooting engagements and educational trips.

"It is very rewarding to see that our students have enjoyed their time with us at Swansea. Their feedback is very valuable and we shall do our best to offer a postgraduate education which is suitable for the demands of the 21st century”.
