Alecia Spence has been nominated for the LawWorks and Attorney General Student Pro Bono Award for ‘Best Contribution by an Individual Student’.
The Awards, run by LawWorks, with the support of the Attorney General, The Rt Hon Suella Braverman QC MP, recognise and celebrate the outstanding pro bono work undertaken by law schools and law students across the UK.
Alecia was nominated by Professor Richard Owen, Director of the Swansea Law Clinic, for her work undertaken with the Clinic, and has been invited to attend a ceremony at the House of Lords in May of this year, where the award winners will be announced.
Speaking of her nomination, Professor Owen said:
“Alecia has shown huge commitment to the Law Clinic. She has volunteered during every year of her studies and has made thoughtful contributions to the Clinic's Student Board. Her contribution to the care of clients living with vulnerabilities, in particular, has been distinguished, as well as innovative, and highly deserving of this national recognition.”
This latest nomination builds on the recent successes of the Law Clinic, and its students, at the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards, and also the LawWorks and Attorney General Student Awards, with Law Clinic students Isabel and Tahmid having previously picked up the same award for donating over 750 hours of their time to the Clinic.
Swansea Law Clinic offers free initial advice about legal problems while giving law students at Swansea the chance to work alongside practising lawyers to advise real clients, offering an invaluable service to the local community.
