Former US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, has announced that applications for the second cohort of the Hillary Rodham Clinton Global Challenges Scholarship are now open.
Secretary Clinton made the announcement during the James Callaghan Memorial Lecture, which was broadcast as part of the Swansea University centenary celebrations on Thursday, July 16th.
“l must mention how proud I am of our Global Challenges Programme Scholars”, said Secretary Clinton.
“It is hard to believe that this programme, supported by Sky, and delivered by the law school, under Dean Elwen Evans, is already coming to the end of its first year.
“In fact, I am very pleased today to announce the opening of applications for the second year of the programme. The website for applications is open today, and I hope many of you will apply, or will pass it on to someone who will.”
The Hillary Rodham Clinton Global Challenges Programme aims to facilitate international cooperation to address urgent national and transnational challenges. In partnership with Sky, this graduate scholarship initiative will develop the next generation of outstanding, forward-looking, real-world focused leaders in legal scholarship, activism, and practice.
The degree programme is based on experiential learning and includes a research project placement. Scholars will also benefit from a range of additional activities, including mentorship, guest speakers, visits and media training.
In 2019, five scholars were selected who are studying the following topics: environmental law, with particular reference on the impact on women and children; human rights and international criminal law; children’s rights and protecting children online, and terrorism, radicalisation and cyber security.
The Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law will once again select five scholars for the second cohort, who will begin their studies in January 2021.
For the 2021 intake, scholars will be selected with an interest in the following global challenges:
• Racial Injustice,
• Online Harms,
• Climate Change,
• Children’s Rights
• Human Rights and Technology.
Successful applicants to this master’s programme will receive a scholarship which covers the full tuition fee as well as a stipend of c.£15,000.

“We look forward to selecting five more inspiring individuals to start in January 2021, and to seeing our community of scholars continue to develop and grow.”
