About The Role
We are recruiting a Research Assistant to advance numerical methods for high-fidelity transient CFD. The role centres on integrating low order finite volume approaches with modern high order discretisation techniques, enabling accurate prediction of complex unsteady flow features while controlling numerical dissipation and dispersion.
You will design, implement and evaluate numerical methods that combine low and high order formulations, and develop hybrid discretisation frameworks that apply varying fidelity across the computational domain. This includes creating conservative transmission algorithms that ensure consistent exchange of information between subdomains. You will also develop and optimise parallel algorithms for large scale execution on HPC systems, contributing MPI, OpenMP and memory efficient components with strong emphasis on performance profiling and optimisation. The successful applicant is expected to produce peer reviewed publications based on the developed numerical strategies and simulation results.

Applicants should demonstrate relevant experience in numerical methods for CFD, competence in scientific programming (such as Fortran or C++), and familiarity with parallel programming (MPI and OpenMP). Experience with finite volume methods, high order discretisation or hybrid numerical frameworks is desirable. See the job description for further details.

Welsh Language Skills
