About The Role

This is a Permanent Full-time role.

We are seeking an established leader in the field of Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacy Practice or Social Pharmacy to join our team. The postholder will be expected to direct an internationally competitive programme of research in one or more of the areas of Pharmacy outlined. The appointee should already be established or close to establishing national and international recognition as a leader in this field. Candidates from a variety of backgrounds may be suitable, particularly those who will be able to engage in multidisciplinary research with groups from across the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science, with the aspiration of improving the lives of large numbers of patients and the general population.
As well as collaborating with existing researchers at the University, you will also want to develop your own independent collaborations with other HEIs, healthcare organisations and practising healthcare professionals. You should uphold the aim of translating research into benefit for patients and populations in all aspects of healthcare and medicines usage.

Pharmacy is a new discipline within the Medical School, so you will also strengthen research activities within the overall pharmacy team, and also act as a mentor to early career researchers. As the MPharm programme moves to the Step 6 and 7 stages of GPhC accreditation, you will also advise on curriculum development in specialised areas related to your field of research expertise, and make other contributions to the programme aligned to the core management and teaching areas of the academic career pathway for Professors on the enhanced research pathway.

Swansea University Medical School is one of the UK’s leading Medical Schools providing an interdisciplinary approach, educating and training tomorrow's life scientists and healthcare professionals. The Medical School ranks top 5 for overall research quality (REF2021) and collaborates with industry in a spirit of open innovation. We became the first department within the University to achieve an Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) Athena SWAN Charter Silver Award in 2015, and was re-awarded in 2019 in recognition of its commitment to equality. The University also holds the Athena SWAN Charter Silver Award. And following the introduction of the MPharm Pharmacy degree in September 2021, the University also launched a new PhD in Pharmacy in 2023.

The successful candidate will:

•    Be recognised as an authority and leader in their field and have a sustained record of developing and leading major programmes of individual or collaborative research for national or international grants, or other awards, as appropriate to the discipline.
•    Have a sustained and distinguished record of publications of world leading or internationally excellent research outputs, in terms of reach, significance and impact.
•    Have evidence of a sustained record of collaboration with providers of pharmacy services or other stakeholders across the pharmacy profession.
