Oviedo is a cathedral city, the capital of Asturias, in Northern Spain. The Asturias region is full of coastal and mountain villages all worth visiting and spending some time in. The other major towns in the area are Gijón, a lively coastal town with a beach worth visiting, and Avilés. It is an interesting old town with various monuments listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The University of Oviedo has distinguished itself for high quality teaching and developing cutting-edge research, and has an excellent Biosciences department.
