Students studying in a group

Usually referred to as TH Koln, Fachhochschule Koln is the largest university of applied sciences in Germany. Set across two campuses in Cologne, one campus in Leverkusen and one in Gummersbach, TH Köln offers more than 90 Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. Accommodation is provided through Kölner Studierendenwerk (KStW). Most of the dorms offer you a room in a shared apartment – abbreviated WG in German – where you'll have your own room but share a kitchen with your flatmates. Single apartments are also available or you may want to consider renting privately, however rent can be expensive. If you opt for a dorm, you will need to apply via the Kölner Studierendenwerk.

There are roughly 80,000 students in Cologne but only approx. 4,800 dorm rooms, so demand is high! Every student at TH Köln is required to provide proof of health insurance cover that is valid for Germany when they register at the university. The Go Global Team can provide you with a copy of Swansea's insurance to present as an option. Alternatively, EU students can provide a copy of their Student EHIC card. All students at TH Köln pay a semester fee which covers the semester ticket as well as a contribution to the general students‘ committee at TH Köln. You will need to transfer this semester fee to TH Köln yourself each semester.

Important Considerations

  • Accommodation is available but limited. You should start to look for accommodation as soon as possible.
  • Students are required by law to provide proof of sufficient health insurance coverage at the time of enrollment and to maintain this cover during their studies.
  • TH Cologne estimate the cost of living to be approx 934 Euros a month, expect a rise for 24/25.
