Global Challenges Scholars 2022

Lola Adeola-Oni, A human and child rights specialist from Nigeria, has worked in the development/humanitarian sector for over ten years and has been part of anti-human trafficking projects. She is passionate about digital inclusion as a means of realising human, social, and economic rights.

Lanvell Blake is a project manager, public relations and health communication professional from Jamaica. He has extensive experience of working with both private and public sector organisations in the areas of public health education and promotion, and has recently worked with a human rights and social justice organisation which advocates for the rights, livelihood and well-being of LGBT people in Jamaica. He sees the programme as an opportunity to further develop his skills as an advocate for the advancement of LGBT human rights.

Emma-Jane Harris, a legal research assistant from Wales. Emma-Jane is motivated by human rights and social justice issues, and is interested in focussing her Global Challenges project on the disproportionate impacts of climate change on women and children in developing nations.

Raphael O’Leary is a qualified barrister from Ireland who hopes the Programme will help him to develop as an activist lawyer and policy developer. His ambition it to focus on issues of digital inclusion, and to contribute to the policies, strategies and binding legal resolutions/legislation that will lead to a just digital future

Marianne Swan, from New York State, has a strong educational foundation in climate science. She has worked with several non-profits that focus on climate-related rights issues, and sees the Global Challenges programme as an opportunity to acquire the tools to amend faulty frameworks and contribute to a global system in which human rights abuses are not tolerated.
