Swansea University alumni Jane Tonks and Tony Clements met at Swansea University and look back fondly on how their time at Swansea University shaped their future life together.

Jane’s Memory

My partner Tony and I met in the College Bar on 7 October 1978 and we’re still together, three children, two rewarding careers and 42 years later.

I was a fresher and my partner had graduated from University College Swansea (as it was then) a few years before and returned with his friends that night to the college bar.

Neither of us were from Swansea but we settled here and our children were all born here.

We enjoyed fulfilling careers, thanks to our education at Swansea, and every few years we return to the college bar on our anniversary to celebrate the importance it played in our lives.

We still live just across Singleton Park, in the warm embrace of our alma mater.

Congratulations Swansea University on your centenary!

We have a couple of photos from that time. There were no mobile phones back then and we didn’t have a camera, so these ones were taken in the photo booth that used to be in Fulton House. We have tried to recreate the originals in the latest pictures.
