Academi Hywel Teifi was launched during the National Eisteddfod at Ebbw Vale in 2010 by Huw Edwards in the presence of Leighton Andrews AM, Education Minister and Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones AM, attracting extensive publicity. The Hywel Teifi Memorial Lecture was established at that Eisteddfod and has now become a highlight for the Swansea University program at the Eisteddfod.Academi Hywel Teifi is responsible for organising, co-ordinating and promoting the program, as well as developing and experimenting with the methods of maintaining the University's presence on the Field.
Since 2010 an annual event is held for staff, alumni and friends of the University with the Vice Chancellor and lead staff addressing the reception. As well as staff, other prominent Friends of the Academi such as Huw Edwards, Beti George, Jason Mohammad and Heini Gruffudd have led sessions on the University stand. There is a strong focus on recruiting and providing information to prospective students at the Eisteddfod, and our stand reflects this goal. Current students are invited to work on the stand annually under the University's SPIN employability scheme to support the recruitment activities.
