Course: MSc Civil Engineering
Hi, I am Bryn Tawton and I completed my MSc in Civil Engineering at Swansea University.
How Did Your Degree Prepare You for Your Career?
For anyone who is passionate about a particular topic in Civil Engineering, the MSc course is a fantastic opportunity to pursue those interests and is a great way to set yourself up for your future career. I carried out research into hydraulic modelling of Natural Flood Management techniques, which I use on a regular basis as a Sustainable Drainage Engineer at WSP. Being in the Blue Green Infrastructure team means being at the forefront of integrated drainage design, and I hope that I can continue to work on SuDS projects aimed at making our built environment a better place for the future.
Your Career
After finishing my MSc, I worked in general civil engineering design before moving into more specialist projects. I knew that sustainable drainage was my main area of interest, and when an opportunity arose to join WSP’s Blue Green Infrastructure team, I couldn’t turn it down. I’ve been lucky enough to have a number of mentors who supported and encouraged my ambitions, both in Swansea University and work.
Currently, I am involved in planning-level drainage design for a wide range of schemes, giving advice on incorporating drainage features and doing hydraulic modelling for detailed designs.
